Term 4 Throwing Course
Directed at kids late primary to high school age, this course will show your child the fundamentals of Wheel throwing in a 10-week course and get them completely immersed in the ceramic process.
+ Structure
In the first 2 weeks we’ll cover centring and clay manipulation in order to understand the basic process of throwing. Students will only keep their best few pieces made in these sessions as it is more aimed to start to get a feel for the clay.
Week three will be a practice run of trimming; removing ribbons of clay to finish off our pieces.
Weeks 4, 5 & 6 are back to making! We find now you’ve had a few tries and run through the entire process, you start to actually get the hang of it in these weeks. You'll now be confident enough in throwing to get a few more weeks of practice in, adding pieces to your collection to take home.
In weeks 7 & 8 we go back to trimming to polish off our pieces.
In weeks 9 & 10, we come together for a glazing session to turn our masterpieces into fully functional ceramics.
Is your child in years 11 or 12 and planning on doing ceramics as part of their Major Work? Let us now so we can provide as much in-depth knowledge and help acquire the skills they need to achieve a high-quality Body of Work.
This session is suitable for school aged children 9-17 years.
+ Lesson length
1 hour once a week for 10 weeks. All of our teachers are WWCC Certified.
+ What you will make
Our expert wheel tutors take you through the process step-by-step, and make sure that everyone comes away making a collection of pieces. This may end up being a bowl, cup, vase... that's completely up to you.
What will your piece look like? It might be a bit ‘organic’ and ‘perfectly imperfect’ but it will be 100% handmade by you. Plus you get to glaze it how you want with a selection of glazes made onsite!
+ What to bring
Mud gets messy but it does come out in the wash! Wear something comfy that you don't mind getting a little dirty. Please also wearing appropriate, closed in shoes.
+ How do I book?
Please note: only the FIRST date of the session is listed on our booking calendar below. You only need to book in for the first date of the session and you will be automatically signed up for all 10 consecutive weeks.
(Reminder: Please ensure you can attend ALL 10 consecutive dates, as we cannot offer make-up classes or switches. )
