Clay Wollongong

Clay Wollongong was established in July 2022 by founder, director, and visual artist Hannah Barclay. Clay Wollongong is first and foremost a community ceramic arts studio situated in the heart of Wollongong CBD. The studio offers a wide-range of ceramic classes & courses from hand building to wheel-throwing for all skill-levels and all-ages as well as studio access for practicing artists.

The studio is a vibrant, welcoming and creative hub full of first timers and experienced potters either taking a class, course or developing their practice and creating new ceramic work.

Who's behind Clay Wollongong?

Hannah is an accomplished visual artist working in ceramic sculpture and installation, as well as a creative entrepeneur with a strong background in education and business. Hannah is a National Art School 2019 BFA graduate. Her work explores the temporal and material qualities of the ceramic medium.

Having developed a passion for ceramics over eleven years ago, Hannah knew very early on in her career that she wanted to forge her own path in the field and combine her artistic practice with her passion for teaching and leadership.

Before turning her dream of building her own creative ceramics community in Wollongong into a reality, Hannah was the founder and co-director of Sydney’s highly successful pottery studio, Clay Sydney, from its inception in 2019 until 2022. Under Hannah’s leadership, Clay Sydney grew from one studio to three in just 3 short years where she built up a loyal client-base of over 500 artists and students.

In early 2022, an opportunity to build on her success closer to her home in Wombarra NSW came up and Hannah began the process of setting up Clay Wollongong. She leads a small team of creatives, professionals and teachers who together have established it into what it is now ~ a space for people to come together, be inspired, learn and create.
